Depression caused by spiritual interference

Depression has several faces. In the medical point of view, depression is seen only under a biological, organicist viewpoint, as a biochemical unbalance of the brain, that is, a lack of neurotransmitters (chemical substances of the brain that regulate our humor, emotional state) and that needs medication, in other words, a chemical control with a specific anti-depressant drug.
However, in my clinical experience as a psychotherapist since 1985, working with Past Life Regression Therapy, such anti-depressant drugs have not proved satisfactory in the combat against depression. In my opinion, viewing the being in a purely organicist way as classical medicine does, considering just a physical, biological body and leaving aside the spiritual part, limits any type of deep treatment.
In this way, as the official medicine has materialistic bases and does not take into consideration the existence of the soul and the spirit, it ignores the spiritual interferences (spiritual obsession) as one of the factors which generates depression.
According to Allan Kardec, codifier of Spiritism, in the book “The Gospel according to Spiritism” (chap. 28, item 81), “Obsession is the persistent action that a bad spirit exerts on an individual”. It presents quite different features, since simple moral influence, without any perceptible external signs, to complete disturbance of the general system and mental faculties.
Therefore, spiritual obsession, as a Soul Illness - a disease not yet catalogued in the medical and psychological compendia - is a very serious thing and deserves a lot of attention in the depression treatment; unfortunately, it remains ignored by most of the health care professionals (doctors and psychologists).
On the other hand, there is a tenuous, subtle line between the spiritual and the organic that hinders the differential diagnosis between the organic disease and the psychic manifestation of a mediunic order, strictly speaking. On working with depressive patients, using Past Life Regression Therapy, I could see that there are three factors that may lead a person to develop a depressive condition:
A) Internal (Endogenous): psychological cause, derived from either traumatic experiences in this life (childhood, birth, mother’s womb) or from a remote past, that is, from past lives;
B) External (Exogenous): intrusive spiritual interference, that is, from disembodied obsessive spirits that hinder the patient’s life, interfering with their mental, emotional and physical state;
C) Mixed: Internal + External, that is, provoked by the patients themselves and aggravated by the obsessive spirit.
In order to better illustrate the spiritual interference that provokes a depressive condition, see the case of a patient who suffered from severe depression, that is, had lost motivation to live – she never finished what she started, suffered from severe physical tiredness – only felt like sleeping and had compulsion the eat.
Clinical Case:
Depression and Physical Tiredness
32-year-old Woman, single.
The patient came to my office because of her depressive condition: lack of motivation to live, dejection, excessive physical tiredness to the point of not feeling like brushing her teeth. She had always been a hardworking person and was enthusiastic about life. But, in the last year, she had been feeling like doing nothing. She lost energy and became obese. Her life was just sleeping and eating compulsively. She felt frustrated, a victim, and cultivated a feeling of depreciation. Her mother died when she was 10 years old and her father got involved with a woman who became her stepmother. Later, her father murdered her stepmother, stabbing her and setting fire to her body, because she had betrayed him with another man. Her father went mad and was taken into a mental hospital.
On regressing, she said:
“It seems that there is someone here in the office…
It’s a spiritual entity, whose face is upon mine (patient was lying on the office couch), I can’t see well, it’ a figure. But I feel that this spiritual presence wants to frighten me.”
- “Ask this spiritual entity what it wants from you.” – I told the patient.
“It says that it wants me to suffer as much as she did (pause). Now I can see her better, it’s my stepmother. But she‘s disappeared, I think she’s gone…”
- “Pay attention, see if she’s really gone.” - I asked the patient.
“No, she hasn’t gone. She’s making faces at me, she’s laughing at me. I can remember when I was 10 years old and my father took her life. It was rather shocking to me. I was coming back from school and saw a lot of policemen at my door. My neighbor said that my father was a murderer. My father gave himself up to the police and was arrested. She was buried, and my father was taken into a mental hospital. I fear that my stepmother died hating him. She is now standing up in front of me, looking at me with hatred. I feel she’s in the darkness.”
- “Would you like to say something to her?” - I asked the patient.
“I’d like to tell her that I wasn’t guilty for her death. My father killed her. She had been really bad, making me do household chores too heavy for a child and I almost failed at school because of that (pause). But I want to say that I forgive her (pause). I can see a light now and I tell her to go towards that light, but she doesn’t want to, she wants to make me suffer. It is she who influences on my emotional state, she wants me to eat a lot, get obese and sloppy. In fact she wants to take her anger out on me for having been killed by my father (pause).
The light is here again. I think that this time she has accepted help. I can see her being assisted by two beings of light. She looks exhausted, is being carried, they are taking her away. Now I’m feeling warm because my spiritual mentor is here in the office.”
- “Check if your mentor has something to tell you.” - I asked the patient.
“He’s put his hand on my front. But now I can see that, apart from him, he has a group of spirits of light here in the office. There must be about twenty entities. They are all praying and the office is full of an intense light. I can see my mentor coming near you. He has his hands palm to palm, bowing to you in gratitude. My mentor is a gray-haired old man, he has a beautiful smile, is thin, and is wearing long white clothes (pause). Now, they are all leaving.”
After having had four more regression sessions, the patient came back to what she used to be and got back her enthusiasm for life. She realized that the depression and physical tiredness didn’t derive from herself, but from the obsessive entity (her stepmother), when she finally saw her being carried away, exhausted, by the spiritual entities of light. She was going on a diet and had already lost four kilos.Osvaldo Shimoda collaborates with the Site, is a therapist and works with hypnosis and Past Life therapy techniques.
